Contents of a group visit

A typical guided tour is as follows:

  • Welcome and overview of Urania
This entails a brief presentation of Urania and a short introduction to the visit. Of course, the agenda can be adapted to the needs of the group or the specific events of that particular day or evening.

  • A heaven's presentation
With spectacular slides, video and computer images of celestial bodies which can be seen in detail. These include self made images that show you an appetiser of the rest of the visit.

  • An exhibit tour
You will visit the different parts of our exhibit with for instance a model of the Big Dipper, the Moon crater Eratosthene and a model of our planetary system.

  • Visit to the weather station and the weather laboratory
Here you will get an explanation of the equipment used to daily measure the weather and to make weather forecasts.

  • Observing the sky through a telescope
Finally you will get a chance to look through one of our bigger telescopes. Only possible under clear skies of course, and starting approximately one hour and a half after dusk. In case of a cloudy sky, a replacement programme is available.

  • Observation guarantee
If observations were not possible due to bad weather, every visitor will get an entrance ticket (valid for 3 months) to come and observe for free on a Friday evening, as an individual visitor.

Remarks

  • A group visit is possible on any day, during the day or evening. The total duration is approximately 2h30.

  • Visits should be reserved at least 4 weeks in advance. This can be done by contacting Urania by letter, phone (+32 (0)3/454.22.93), fax (+32 (0)3/454.22.97) or email (info@urania.be).

  • If you wish, the agenda can be adapted for your group. These adaptations have to be discussed when you plan the visit. In the case of major changes, Urania can adapt the entrance fee.

  • At night it can be cold outside, even during summer. We therefore advise you to dress warmly.

  • We also propose a VIP-visit, "Urania Mobile" and the planetarium visit.

Observe the stars yourself!
